The Gaze Within
Step closer.
Take your time.
Right now you need to understand nothing. You need not search for hidden symbols. You need not try to decipher the artist's intent.
Simply look.
First you see an eye. Then you notice the mirror. And unexpectedly, something happens that rarely occurs in a museum.
You are no longer merely looking at a work of art. You begin to see yourself.
We live in a world that ceaselessly tells us who we ought to become: more successful, stronger, faster, more beautiful, more useful.
And so, unnoticed, another day passes. Then another.
And one day a person catches themselves thinking that they long ago stopped asking:
"But what is it that I truly want?"
There is a moment almost no one notices.
One day we no longer make our decisions because they feel right, but because they are safer. Because they are more familiar. Because others expect it of us.
And it is on that very day that we begin, little by little, to forget ourselves.
Look once more at your reflection.
We know our face. We know our name. We know our story.
But do we know ourselves?
Perhaps that is precisely why the mirror stands at the heart of this work.
Not to show what is outward, but to help, one day, to recognise what the eyes cannot see.
Perhaps you came here to search for something new.
But what if there is nothing left to search for?
What if the most important knowledge has never left you?
Perhaps it cannot be gained from without. One can only remember it.
I do not know which question lives within you today. Everyone carries their own.
Yet if, beside this work, you have felt the stillness even for a single moment …
If, even for a second, you have stopped playing the familiar roles …
If, for even a single moment, you have met yourself, your true self …
Then that encounter has already taken place.
And perhaps, one day, you will wish to return to it.
Not because this work changes, but because you change.
And then it will open itself to you in an entirely different way.
Do not seek the answer at once.
Perhaps it already lives within you.
Everything comes in the moment a person is ready to remember.
